Follow-up Regarding the Hands-on Timing Clinic on Friday

Thanks to the following volunteers who invested the better part of today learning and teaching about how the elements of a ski race timing system fit together: Jeff Linkenbach, Peter Bedell, Arin St Cyr, Ron Winters, Lance Trebesch, Fran Noel, Geri Smith, Randy Smith, Eric Becker, and Jim Robbins.  Your time and interest are greatly appreciated.

If you participated in today's clinic, please take a moment to answer to quick questions below in order to help us improve the clinic in the future.

Personally, I liked the size of the group, our ability to manipulate and see a complete race system on a small scale, and the chance to combine hands-on use with a discussion of the principles of timing.  On the other hand, it felt to me that we might have been better off leaving the discussion of the Split Second scoring software to a separate, hands-on seminar.

The Devo/Buddy Werner teams will train slalom tomorrow (Friday) and GS on Saturday.

More on Friday's Hands-on Race Timing Workshop

We expect a nice-sized group to participate in this Friday's informal race system workshop.  We'll get started at the Race Shack by the Ramcharger lift after the kids clear out at 9:00AM.  Since Hangman's isn't open, we'll set up the timing system in miniature right outside the Race Shack.  Consequently, I expect that this will be a half-day workshop.

BSSEF Training Video Series

Please take a look at the BSSEF Training Video Series. We are developing this video series to provide a training tool for our coaches, and we hope it will also be fun for families to view the drills and exercises being taught by the coaches. Most of the kids are familiar with the drills so take the time to have them discuss the training with you as you review each drill. We'll being adding more drills as often as possible.

Race Announcement for YSL Slalom Races at Bridger Bowl on 1/7/12 - 1/8/12

Entries for the upcoming SL races at Bridger Bowl are due 1/3/12.  Talk to your coaches.  Detailed information regarding the races can be viewed here.  All athletes must sign a Bridger Bowl release.  All race volunteers must sign a Bridger Bowl release form.  

Hands-on Race Timing Systems Training on December 30th

We will be hosting an informal, hands-on training session on Friday, 12/30/11, starting at 9:00AM at the Race Shack next to the base of the Ramcharger lift at Big Sky Resort.  It's a terrific opportunity to learn in a consequence-free environment.  We will install, operate, and dismantle a complete timing system on Hangman's during the course of a day.  To register, please fill out the form at the bottom of this post.

Need a day pass?  We have a very limited number of vouchers that can be exchanged for an all-day lift ticket.  Please indicate your need on the registration form below.  Vouchers will be distributed on a first come-first served basis to those who don't have a season pass.

During the course of the day, we will cover all of the practical aspects of setting up and running a ski race timing system that aren't typically discussed during USSA certification clinics.  Topics on the agenda are relevant to anybody interested in course worker, start referee, finish referee, starter, or timing and calculations roles.
