Mark Your Calendar: BSSEF Auction Event on 12/10/11

The BSSEF will host its annual auction fundraising event on 12/10/11 at Buck's T-4 in Big Sky.  Johnny Cash tribute band Cold Hard Cash will be the featured entertainment.  Details are to follow, but reserve the date on your calendar.

As a parent of a ski racer, chance are that you will serve as a hand timer at the start or finish of a ski race.  It is not a complex job, but hand timing isn't that easy.  You have to be able to do a couple of things consistently well, often under difficult conditions.  It is surprisingly easy to make a mistake.  Most of the time, recorded hand times are just part of the paperwork.  Occasionally, however, hand times are absolutely crucial.  Consequently, it is a really good idea to become familiar with hand timing before you are called upon to serve.  We recommend you do two things:

1. Download and carefully read this one page guide.

Big Sky Thanksgiving Camp Canceled

I'm sad to report that Big Sky Resort has canceled the Thanksgiving race camp for this season.  Apparently, the resort felt that the camp wasn't going to attract a sufficient number of out-of-region participants.  Hopefully, the outlook will be brighter next year, because last year's camp was a big success for all involved.

In the meantime, check out the following opportunities:

Panorama Race Camp for J2s and Older

The details on the BSF race camp at Panorama, British Columbia, for J2s and older can be downloaded here.

• All-inclusive cost is $1,100 per athlete.
• A passport is required.
• A $350 deposit is due by Monday, 10/10/11.

Fall Slalom Camp at Loveland

Although not a Northern Division camp, the Fall Slalom Camp at Loveland Ski Area on November 8-13th features Big Sky's Martin Bell as one of the coaches.

Thanksgiving Race Camp in Banff
